It happens twice a year. The mother of all American libraries, the Library of Congress, opens the doors to its main reading room for a “special public open house.”
One of the days it is open this year is President’s Day. So if you got the book gene and are anywhere near Washington, DC you might want to head on over and have a look.
Aside from the breathtaking nature of the room you will also have an opportunity to view the initial draft of the Emancipation Proclamation, handwritten by President Abraham Lincoln which has not been on public view since 2009, President Lincoln’s final draft of his first inaugural address, the inaugural Bible on which he took the oath of office in 1861 (also used by President Barack Obama for both of his inaugurations), and the original reading copy of Lincoln’s second inaugural address.
and if that isn’t enough there are plenty of activities planned for the kids including a presidential-themed story time.
