“The best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our very best.” — Wallace Stegner on our National Parks
While our government puts the final touches on a budget all of our National Parks remain closed. As the Huffington Post points out in this handy infographic, “The shutdown of the federal government has had a devastating impact on some of the most beautiful places in the country.”
Well, here’s one way to stay connected while we wait out the madness:
A pop-up book!
Illustrated by Dave Ember and executed by paper engineer Bruce Foster America’s National Parks might be the best remedy while we wait to get in.
The book features 18 of our most popular parks with six as stunning pop-ups and reproductions of thirteen historic WPA posters. And better yet, most of the proceeds from the book goes to help out the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). The NPCA also has a handy counter on their website tallying up the economic devastation that has accompanied the shutdown. As of this writing – almost $465 million has been drained from the local communities that serve our parks!
The book is published by W.W. West and is offered in a trade edition (pictured above) or in a limited slipcased edition of 1200 numbered copies signed by all the participants.
