"The Library, The Library": This Brit Hit Just Won’t Quit

We all know that annoyingly awful auditory head trip. The brain is stuck in a loop. A terrifyingly relentless tune is played by our own mental deejay over, and over, and over again. And more often than not it’s something we can’t stand, the musical equivalent of the sharp squeaks of sneaker soles on a basketball court.

So I warn you in advance that like a Kenny G smooth jazz riff or Katy Perry singing the praises of her girlfriend’s Cherry Chapstick, once you hear the siren song in this video you can’t unring that bell. This tune will remain on your internal turntable forever.

You’ll find yourself strolling along, innocently recalling your Trader Joe’s shopping list when your brain will be taken hostage by this all too catchy, cheery chant:

“The library, the library, it’s the place where books are free.
The library, the library, it’s a lot better than watching T.V.”

And all the mysteriously mesmerizing images you’ll see here–if you’re daring enough to watch–will come flooding back before your mind’s eye. Like the blowback from a bad acid trip you’ll be haunted by that sign that reads, “SNEDGE” (What?!?) and the one that says “XXX.” (Meaning this library has a pornography section?!?)

Should you choose to embark on this perilous journey, you may wish to learn more about the artist responsible for adding this musical Ebola virus to your temporal lobes. Uncut magazine describes this arch villain, Cursor Miner, as “electro Syd Barrett meets Aphex Twin meets Gary Numan with a touch of early Eno and a nod at Beck.” And no, I haven’t the slightest idea what that means either.

Remember, you play this at your own risk.
