For his first book illustrator Mark Ulriksen took to Kickstarter. Somewhat of a dog specialist having “painted dogs for magazines such as The New Yorker, Time, GQ, The Atlantic Monthly, as well as for children’s books and people who wanted a portrait of their dog” he was ready to compile his first book about his canine friends.
Hoping to raise $25,000 to produce a worthy, well-made book, when all was said and done, Ulriksen raked in over $46,000. All the additional monies are slated to go to the proper marketing and public relations that the book deserves.
On why dogs, Ulriksen says:
I’ve painted dogs for magazines such as The New Yorker, Time, GQ, The Atlantic Monthly, as well as for children’s books and people who wanted a portrait of their dog. Dogs have as much personality and unique quirks as people do, they’re fun to observe and even more fun to paint. Dogs are easy to please – they smile a lot, are eager companions and never complain about their likeness. I’ve grown up with dogs most of my life and have been lucky to have had quite a few great companions including my favorites, two wonderful chocolate Labs, Henry and Ted. Those guys are featured throughout this book

Oh, and by the way, that illustration of Derek Jeter on the cover of the latest issue of the The New Yorker is by Ulriksen.
Dogs and baseball – tough to beat!
