“You can take me out of Manhattan, but you can’t take me out of my shoes!”- Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) Sex and the City
If shoes are your thing no doubt you’ve heard of Stuart Weitzman. With retail stores across the U.S.A. and with its shoes sold in over 70 countries the brand is on top of the luxury footwear heap and “has earned a worldwide reputation as the embodiment of great American Style.”
Since the first shop opened on Madison Avenue in New York in 1995 Jane Gershon Weitzman, Stuart’s wife and “sole mate”, has been commissioning artists to create fantasy shoes for display in the shop’s window.
Over time these unwearable artifacts that graced the windows became as much of a draw as the shoes inside.
Now Weitzman has gathered together approximately 150 of the more than 1000 shoes that have been created over the years for the book Art & Sole with 100% of the profits going to Ovarian and Breast Cancer research.
The well-produced book retails for an affordable $25. “I want to be able to support the charities instead of producing a book many people won’t buy” says Weitzman.
and in cased you missed it J.K. Rowling has a thing for shoes too and just hosted a BBC Radio 4 segment of Woman’s Hour devoted to among other things, shoes.
